Stewardship Well Done Journey
Step 5 – RETIREMENT
Roadblock #2 – I’ll never retire!

We’ve heard many people claim they will never retire. Usually this statement means one of three things: 1) I don’t believe I will ever have enough money to retire; 2) I love my work so much I can’t imagine leaving it; and 3) I don’t believe God has called me to retirement. Let’s look a little closer at each one.

  1. Even if you don’t believe you will ever have enough money to retire, it is still a good idea to capture all employer matching funds. It’s free money! We would also encourage you to double check your thoughts with a professional. We have met with several clients who discovered there actually was a clear path to retirement for them! If you aren’t ready to meet with a professional, we also offer a free online retirement assessment (click here).

  1. It’s a blessing to love a job so much you don’t think you will ever tire of doing it! But life is unpredictable. Even if you don’t ever think you will ever choose retirement … it may choose you. It is still a good idea to take advantage of retirement benefits offered through your job. If you truly never retire, the funds you have saved can be used to benefit your family or give a substantial gift to a ministry you love.

  1. Many ministry professionals hold the firm belief that it is not an option to “retire” from ministry. We definitely understand that viewpoint. However, there is a likely a point in your life where you would like to be financially independent. This can open up new possibilities for ministry even though the world considers you “retired”. We recently had a great panel discussion on this topic and invite you to listen in (click here).

Remember from last week that this step is not about fully funding a retirement plan. Even if you are working through some of the thoughts above, it is still a good idea to take advantage of the retirement opportunities being offered through your employer. The earlier, the better.
