Stewardship Well Done Journey

Step 5 – RETIREMENT

Roadblock #3 – It’s hopeless!

Hopelessness abounds in our world today. You don’t have to look too far to encounter a situation that begs for hope. In working with hundreds of clients, we have found that feelings of hopelessness can even surround retirement conversations. They are often accompanied by statements such as, “I’m too old,” or “I’ll never have enough to retire”. We want to give you some hope today.

It is true that the earlier you start saving for retirement, the better off you will be. But that doesn’t mean everything is hopeless if you find yourself closer to retirement age than not. Rather than giving up, we encourage you to ask questions. It may be too late to take advantage of some retirement savings, but by talking with a professional, you may find there are other options open to you.

Typical figures discussed when talking about retirement goals include $1 million or 12x your pre-retirement salary. Those types of numbers may seem unattainable. But we know that even baby steps take you farther on your journey. And don’t forget about the compounding effect of investing over time. Make smaller sub-goals and celebrate each victory. Meeting with a professional can help you set realistic goals and identify a path to reach each one.

There is likely not a “miracle cure” for your retirement account … but there is hope! If you have concerns about retirement, start asking questions. At the very least, you will gain a better understanding of your overall retirement situation. And that is a definite WIN.
